AIRLIE BEACH AND THE DISCOVERY PARKS AIRLIE BEACH

Airlie Beach! What an iconic Australian destination. Known for it’s tourists and backpackers, beautiful beaches, nightlife and the laid back vibe! It’s also the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef, this flourishing hub is the ideal base for some adventure! We chose to stay at the DISCOVERY PARKS AIRLIE BEACH and we had such a great time. 

6 months ago Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsunday Coast and devastated the area. In the short time since, the vegetation has grown back surprisingly well and the town is returning to it’s beautiful former self. You’ll notice around town some of the parts that were damaged badly and still awaiting repairs. Shute Harbour was probably the worst affected and the damage there gives you an idea of how powerful Debbie must have been. Well done to the Airlie Beach locals, it must have been a massive clean up effort after such a big Cyclone. Scary Stuff!!

So much to do in this hip coastal town. The lagoon is a must, with heaps of shade and grass around and shallow pools for the kids we had a great day lazing by the pool and soaking up the Whitsunday sunshine. We stopped in at the Saturday morning markets that offer a great range of food, coffee, handmade goods, local arts and craft, fresh fruit and vegetables. Afterwards take a stroll down the Main Street of Airlie as there is plenty of shops, pubs and cafes to checkout.

If you want to just relax and unwind for your stay, the DISCOVERY PARKS AIRLIE BEACH is a perfect place to do so. Let the kids run amuck in the huge waterpark or pool with waterslide while you watch from one of the day beds provided. There is a great camp kitchen and bbq area that overlooks the jumping pillow and large playground. The perfect place for drinks and nibbles and to catch up with other travellers while the kids are entertained for hours.
