“HALLS GAP” AND THE “BIG4 GRAMPIANS PARKGATE RESORT”
A great Caravan Park for a family getaway, and a perfect base to explore what the ‘Grampians National Park‘ has to offer.
Have you ever heard of a little town in Victoria called ‘Halls Gap’? Well honestly, I hadn’t. My wife Bec had only just told me about it, and that her family used to go there for getaways when she was growing up.
We decided to shoot up there from our mainly coastal LAP Of OZ and check out whats on offer. We towed our Van the 2.5 hours up the Range from Warrnambool and chose to stay at the BIG4 Grampians Parkgate Resort, and aren’t we glad we did!! What a great Caravan Park for a family getaway, and a perfect base to explore what the ‘Grampians National Park‘ has to offer. Its a beautiful little Mountain town nestled in the Grampians national park. The Town centre has everything you need to stock up when you arrive and there is a yummy bakery and a Top Cafe for a good strong brew!
The Caravan Park itself has a great layout with several choices for accomodation. There is Quality unit and Cabin accommodation, camping areas and best of all for us, large grassy caravan sites or slab sites with beautiful new ensuites attached. The staff are Amazing and always up for a chat and to offer some local knowledge on what to do and see in the area during your stay..
The attractions onsite include Playgrounds, swimming pools, tennis courts, pedal cars, games and recreation room and the kids favourite, A JUMPING PILLOW. There are some great camp kitchens and BBQ areas scattered around the park and everything is kept in mint condition by the Caretakers.
During our stay here, we ventured out to see some of the Local attractions. First up was a short drive to the Wonderland Carpark, where we hiked up to see some great sights and rock formations including “The Grand Canyon“. A narrow walkway through the cliffs called “Silent Street” and the lookout at the top of the walk called “The Pinnacle“.
Next on the itinerary was “Mackenzie Falls”. From the Carpark here, its a steep walk down a few hundred rock steps to the base of the Falls, where the water flows all year round. Great spot for a photo and a bite of lunch before the climb back up to the car park. On the drive home, make sure you stop in for an ice cream at “Coolas Ice Creamery“, the kids LOVED it!
