Could this be Queensland’s BEST free camp??

Notch Point is located in the Mackay Region, about 40 minutes South of Sarina. It is suitable for off road caravan,s and 4WD’s however if you have a semi off-road van with some clearance you’ll be right getting in. The track can get tight and there are a few large grooves in the track to navigate when getting into Notch Point.

You’ll first hit a gate and then the track to the campground took us about 20 minutes, but if you’re not towing you’ll be in much quicker. There is camping on the creek mouth and also over the hill where you’ll come out to the beach side. Where you camp will be dependent on the winds. We went over to the beachside. Its a large grassy area and mostly flat. Justin went the 5 minutes back over the hill to launch the tinny on the creek side.

You can have campfires at Notch Point and also dogs! We seen loads of whales and it is a lovely outlook there which is why we think it is the best FREE camp in QLD.

Justin is a hopeless fisherman and didn’t catch a lot of fish. However, he did nail a 60cm Flathead and 50cm Trevally. There were plenty of others caught too but nothing for the plate or worth mentioning haha.

The Essential Guide to Road Tripping Australia eBook

The kids had the best time on the rope swings througouht the campground, done plenty of fishing and we cooked up a few mad feasts over the fire! The rocks out the front of camp were a hit and they spent hours out there finding sea creatures and jumping off boulders.

There are no facilities and the closest dump point and supermarket is at Sarina.

We spent a week at this free camp and absolutely loved it!
