48 HOURS IN THE DAINTREE
The absolutely beautiful and untouched Daintree Rainforest in North Queensland.
It’s probably on your bucket list. The absolutely beautiful and untouched Daintree Rainforest in North Queensland. The Daintree and the more well known town, Cape Tribulation are where the rainforest meets the reef and it is truly spectacular.
WHERE TO STAY?
If you’re in a caravan, camper trailer, van or tent we recommend staying at Cape Trib Camping. Not only is it beachfront camping (but you can’t see the beach due to the rainforest), they do a mean pizza and a beautiful coffee. It is a fantastic campground and plenty of room for the kids to muck around. The also have some epic rope swings and climbing trees for the kids that will have them playing for hours while you relax on the beach.
DON’T HAVE CAMPING GEAR? Try out Cape Trib Beach house. They have budget style cabins, camp kitchen, restaurant and pool.

HOW TO GET THERE?
The Daintree is accessible by car or you can do a day tour, however you’ll have to cross over on the Ferry. Costs of the Ferry is $30 return and note that the drive into the Daintree is very winding so take care. You’ll want and need to go slow to take in all the beautiful scenery, but don’t make yourself car sick. Once you get over the ferry you will lose all phone reception, so make sure you know the address of your accomodation.
DAY 1. You can do a day trip from Cairns, but allow for a long day! It really has to be SEEN this place. There is so much to do and we recommend allowing 48 hours!
Start the day by going to the Visitor Information Centre. They know the area well and you can grab a map which pin points locations you’ll want to see around The Daintree. Begin with a rainforest walk, there are a couple to choose from. There is a little track on Palm Road that has a great Rainforest Walk (pictured below). It is lesser known and not busy but the odd tour goes through there. Others are sign posted and on a local map and you can do the Madja Botanical Walk too which takes only 30 minutes.

DAY 2.
Cape Trib Beach House is a great spot to visit (or stay). Located on Cape Tribulation Beach, you can go here, have a drink and a bite to eat. Plus its where you will find the hanging heart pictured below. It makes for a cute photo and even better if you take it from the other side and out to the ocean.
Kids can be tough to travel with….Here’s a few tips to help you out!
Grab yourself and ice cream from the Daintree Ice Cream Company which have some unusual and delicious flavours. Take a walk afterwards on the Dubuji Boardwalk which is a 1.8km interpretative rainforest walk and great for the kids!
When making your way back to the ferry from Cape Tribulation, stop in at the beautiful Thornton Beach. Amazing blue water and a cafe right by the beach.

If you’re keen to see some crocodiles, you will love Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. It is a wildlife sanctuary and ecotourism park located about 65km south of Cape Tribulation. We highly recommend this place. Lots of other animals as well as crocs and be sure to take the boat tour, just incredible and we all loved it. I don’t want to give too much away but it was a fantastic experience. Family ticket is $102.50. Don’t miss the croc feeding!
