El Questro Station, Gibb River Rd

This amazing rugged property is located in The Kimberleys, about 85km from Kununurra, WA on the Gibb River Road. It has some spectacular scenery, full of adventure and atmosphere!

To get into the station it’s a sealed road coming from Kununurra and the last 16km is a well maintained unsealed gravel road. In peak season it is graded regularly with a couple of easy creek crossings.

We chose to stay at the Black Cockatoo Camground on a powered site. It a great spot to set up as its only a short walk to the amenities as well as the restaurant and bar. They put on live music in the evenings and if you’re there on the right day they do a pizza and burger night. Its a great atmosphere and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

From our campground we decided to head out to the Jackeroo Waterhole. A beautiful little oasis to swim and cool off. We walked into ElQuestro Gorge however we decided to stop at the Halfway Pool, have a swim and head back. It was a rocky 2.6km return trek in and the kids managed well. Apparently the trail becomes more difficult and harder to tackle with little ones.

Be sure to check out Branco’s Lookout for stunning sunset views. Take up a drink and relax on the table and chairs provided. Others were up there enjoying a wine and nibbles.

Day 3 had us hiking into the iconic Emma Gorge. Its 3.6km return trip and well worth it once you witness the beauty of the gorge, waterfall and swimming hole. It is simply stunning. It is a rocky walk in and our kids mangaged well. There tired legs got the better of them and began to trip many times. But they made it back in one piece.

Once we finished our gorge walk, we chilled out at the Emma Gorge Resort. Located here is a restaurant/cafe and bar. We decided to grab a couple of coffees and get some food into the kids bellies. We soon found out the the pool right next to the restaurant was for any guest saying on the property. So in we all went for a dip, to cool off after a long walk. Great way to end our Emma Gorge experience.

Day 4 we started early and got to Zebedee Hot Springs by 7am. One of the first there we were able to enjoy the springs without the crowds! To say its amazing is an understatement. We all really enjoyed our time here. The hot springs stay at a constant 28-32 degrees all year round. Perfect!

One we were finished at Zebedee Hot Springs we ventured out to the Pentecost River crossing. Photographing the iconic picture with the Coburn Ranges in the background was a must for us. What a beautiful drive. We ended the day by swimming in the waterfall rapids right by the campground, beer in hand. We spent hours here and had a dip in the swimming hole. Perfect way to finish of our trip into El Questro!
